No Intimation From State Government So No Local Train Service For People In Pune: Railways

Pune, 15th August 2021: In the absence of any communication from the Maharashtra state government, Railways have not started local train service for the people from today as mentioned in the revised lockdown orders.

As per the state government guidelines, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and District Collector have issued revised orders for their respective jurisdiction.

All three government bodies have mentioned that the people will be allowed to travel in local trains if they have taken two doses of the vaccine. They can travel 14 days after completing the vaccine doses. Also, a mechanism will be put in place to verify vaccination reports and provide monthly passes. A railway ticket checker can fine them Rs 500 if they are not complying with the rules.

However, the Pune railway division has claimed that there is no communication from the state government to start the local train services for the people. At present, only essential services employees are allowed to travel in the local trains.

“We have not received any communication from the state government to start local train services for people in Pune”, said Manoj Jhawar, public relations officer (PRO), Pune railway division.

PunekarNews reached out to District Collector Rajesh Deshmukh, PMC Commissioner Vikram Kumar and PCMC Commissioner Rajesh Patil, for their comments.

This report will be updated after getting a response from them.
