An unopened copy of a Super Mario game has set the record for the highest price ever paid for a video game.
The sealed copy of Super Mario Bros 3 was sold at auction for US$156,000 (A$213,000) in Dallas at the weekend.
It is more than A$50,000 more than the previous record-holder, a copy of Super Mario Bros which went under the hammer in July.
Super Mario Bros 3 was initially released in 1989 and is considered one of the best video games of all time.
It has sold 17 million copies in total.
