Wagholi, 14th December 2023: A leopard attacked a 5-year-old girl in the village of Burkegaon near Perne within the jurisdiction of Lonikand police station.
Senior Police Inspector Vishwajeet Kaingade, in charge of Lonikand police station, Pune City Police, reported, “No villagers have gathered in the village. The leopard has vanished in sugarcane fields where there’s complete darkness. The girl has been shifted to Sassoon Hospital and is currently undergoing treatment. As the injuries are not severe, she is not kept in the ICU.”
The girl hails from Dharashiv (Osmanabad) and currently resides in Markal near Alandi.
He further added, “Three Assistant Police Inspectors with staff and Forest officers have reached the spot. They are examining the pug marks to confirm the identity of the animal. Camera traps will be set, and thermal drones will be utilized to detect body temperature and thereby locate the animal. A rescue team equipped with modern equipment will assist them on Friday. We are providing necessary support to them.”
